Can you believe over 1,000 children entered the Thompson Toyota’s Draw the Future Contest? There were lots of very cool drawings by future artists in kindergarten to sixth grade. And the grand prize winner gets to be featured on a billboard. Sweet. Check out the pix and video.

While I was a student at University of the Arts in 1986, the city of Philadelphia endured one of the worst strikes in it’s history. Municipal workers walked off the job July 10, 1986 and came back 20 days later. During a 20 day strike, about 20,000 tons of trash piled up across the city. It made for one smelly mess. I decided to photograph the scene at Veterans Stadium, which was home to the Philadelphia Phillies and Philadelphia Eagles. I had never seen anything like it. Or as stinky. #tbt #throwbackthursday
On Monday evening I photographed the Last Supper. Well, not really. It was a rehearsal for the re-enactment, no…recreation of Michelangelo’s Last Supper that Trinity Lutheran Church has been doing in the church the Thursday before Easter for the last 14 years. It looks really cool.

Oh, and I must admit, I did ask Jesus if he could do something about the abnormal temperature this spring. He’s working on it.
Yesterday, I spent the morning photographing a hostage situation in which 4 firefighters were held captive by a former volunteer member. Luckily, all ended well when the man gave himself up to police.

Wishing everyone a Happy St. Patrick’s Day!!
Had a nice time making pictures at Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Doylestown, Pennsylvania this past Ash Wednesday. Luckily, Father Paschal Onunwa spoke to me on camera and explained a bit about Ash Wednesday. After 12 years of catholic school, you’d think I’d have remembered some of it. Heres some of the images below and the video.
I’ve also attached a pdf of the page so you can see how the image was used in the newspaper.
The lesson here is…be prepared.
Over the weekend I had to make some pictures of various properties in the New Hope, Pennsylvania and Buckingham, Pennsylvania areas. Most were pretty easy to photograph. The one where I had to become a bit inventive was Clairemont Mansion with a 10 foot gate that obstructed the view.
The image I needed to make was to show the landscape as well as the building. It was not going to work with the gate in the foreground. And I didn’t want to shoot through the gate because it would block a clean view. I thought, “Oh No! I may need a drone!” Then quickly realized that that isn’t necessary because I was prepared.
So, I went back to my car and pulled my Bogen Monopod out. I then placed the Nikon D800 on the top, set the shutter speed for a 5 second delay. Then I set the exposure, tripped the shutter and hoisted the monopod and camera over my head as high as I could possibly get it into the air.
If I hadn’t been prepared and carried my monopod in the trunk, I wouldn’t have been able to make the picture I needed to illustrate the assignment. Preparation is a key ingredient in the photojournalism field.
Now I have to go and finish my interview with The Art Career Project. They’ve asked to interview me about getting started as a photojournalist.
Yesterday I photographed Centra Bucks YMCA’s President and CEO taking the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge and put together the sequence as an animated GIF.

The Archdiocese of Philadelphia had been discussing the merger of several parishes in the Philadelphia area over the last few months. The announcement was to be made last Saturday night to parish members of the affected churches.
On Saturday night I was assigned to photograph what potentially might have been one of the last masses celebrated at St. Ann Catholic Church in Bristol, Pennsylvania.
I arrived early, to make sure I had time to speak with the church pastor and secure permission to snake pictures during the service as well as the announcement of the merger.
The padre agreed, although I did receive a bit of resistance from some parishioners that has said they didn’t believe the pastor would like anyone making photographs. They seemed surpassed when i told them I had secured permission, and all was good.
It seemed as though people knew what was coming when Father Tom Morris read the announcement from the Archdiocese. There were plenty of tears beforehand as well as during. It was a difficult assignment to photograph, because I could feel their pain. Below are some of the images as well as the video I made during the announcement from Father Morris.
The Central Bucks Chamber of Commerce held a State of the State Breakfast yesterday. I was looking for something a bit different and came up with this.

Just got back from shooting a drone protest. I brought along my old Nikon D1 and after I finishing with the assignment, I picked up the D1 to play around by making some B&W images.
